Program Breakdown: The instruction will be broken down into both field and box lacrosse instruction depending on the time of year. Different skill sets in each area will be identified and a development plan laid out.

September – November: Field Lacrosse instruction.

November - January: Box Lacrosse instruction.

Skill Breakdown:

The primary goal of Xavier Lacrosse is skill development. The majority of our lacrosse practice time is focused on our athletes performing increasingly difficult skill techniques at increasing speeds. Our mantra is that we will increase the skill level of every athlete by one level each year they attend academy with us. We have had a lot of success over the years in transitioning B level players to A, etc. 

Skill development will be broken into 3 main categories; offense, defense and transition. All three areas translate to both the box and field lacrosse game. Main areas will be addressed and then broken down and implemented in the form or drills and video.

Travel & Recruiting:

The secondary goal of the instructors at St. FX is that student athletes be recognized for their unique lacrosse ability at the high school level and beyond. 

When paired with hard work, lacrosse has a powerful ability to introduce motivated students to a world of possibility. 

The family at St. FX is committed to using connections within the lacrosse community to help kids explore potential opportunities.

Many identification camps take place throughout the summer, with lacrosse coaches looking for the best talent to recruit to their programs. 

The recruiting process can begin as early as grade 10 and continues up to a year after high school. It is recommended that student athletes to compile a list of short term and long term goals (lacrosse specific, fitness, and academic). 

St. Francis Xavier will work specifically with each individual, as well as parents, to help develop a plan to work towards the student’s ultimate goal.

It is important to remember that no matter which lacrosse program, the vast majority of recruited athletes from Canada are self-advocates. 

Researching, collecting film, reaching out to coaches, attending camps and tournaments are all self-directed practices that increase the odds of recruitment

Credit Breakdown:

Students registered in lacrosse will gain:

10 Credits Total

  • 1 Credit for each module they complete.
  • 5 Credits for CTS: Sports Performance
  • 5 Credits for Physical Education (Including their academy sport – hockey or lacrosse)

The following chart demonstrates the modules that students will have completed should they finish all three years of academy at St. Francis Xavier for a total of 15 Credits.
